8 Tips to Optimize your Blog Posts for SEO

Regularly publishing articles, company news and other interesting content can be a great way to increase company visibility, build brand awareness and generate new sales opportunities. An active blog also helps keep visitors on your website longer and helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level.  Here are six tips to optimize your blog posts for SEO to ensure your articles will get as much visibility as possible (and be more search engine friendly at the same time!).

1. Do your keyword research

Keywords are the words and phrases within your website or article that make it possible for people to find your site on search engines. There are various platforms to use to help find the right keywords for your site. Google Ads Keyword Planner or SEMrush Keyword Research Tool are two examples of these programs. Using these platforms will help you to find keywords that your audience is interested in. Use these keywords to come up with new blog article ideas, and you can also include these keywords throughout your posts.

2. Use the right keywords throughout your posts

After doing your research, you can start utilizing these keywords throughout your blog posts. Include the keywords throughout the post, and in the title of the post as well. Make sure that you place these keywords where they naturally fit, and you aren’t just stuffing them into the content. It could make the post awkward to read, and Google is able to detect a site that is doing this and can penalize it. .

3. Use links throughout post: internal and external

Once you have enough blog posts, you will have enough content to start internally linking other helpful blog posts on your site, and redirect readers to sections of your site that are related to the content of the post. This helps older posts get some attention, too. Link a couple relevant, older blog posts at the bottom but make sure not to link too many of them because it could overwhelm the viewer.

If you are going to reference another blog or website in your post, make sure to include the link to it. It will get the site owner to notice that you linked them, and they may even return the favor in the future. Having trusty external links will help your website rank higher in search results. 4. Use Social Media to increase reach of post

Sharing links to your blog articles on your social media sites will help to reach more people and give your posts more exposure. Even using programs to plan out your posts like Hootsuite will help you to never forget to upload a blog post. People may not always be checking your website for updated blog posts, but they may be more likely to notice them if they are scrolling through their social media platforms and the article interests them.

5. Add New Blog Content Regularly

Adding new content will show search engine’s that your website is active, and search engine’s will crawl your site more often, which can help improve your websites SEO ranking. It also helps keep your audience active with your website, since they will regularly have new content to read. Just make sure that the content is relevant, don’t just write any old stuff just to have fresh content.

6. Have an effective blog title

Having an effective blog title will help with the posts search rankings. A good, interesting title will make your article more relevant to the search query and it will motivate users to click on your article if it is relevant to them. Make sure the title is clear on what the topic is about, and it is catchy to grab people’s attention.   7. Use alt text for images and videos

Adding pictures and videos to your posts will not only make your post more interesting, but it also helps your SEO if you add alt text to the images and videos. Alt text describes images since search engines can’t read images.  Use a keyword (or keyword phrase) in your alt text that relates to the blog post. Alt text’s help you to rate higher in SEO and it will help you rank in the image section of the search engine with your blog post.

8. It’s not too late to go back and optimize your older posts

If you haven’t followed our tips on your blog posts, it is not too late to start. You can go back and edit older blog posts to make sure each post has these elements in them, and make sure to do each of these tips before posting any future posts.

Following these six tips for your past and future blog posts will help get them noticed, and gain visibility for your company. If you don’t already have a blog on your website, you should seriously consider starting one, and follow these tips when creating your first post.
